Is your site designed to be responsive? If not, there’s a good chance you’re missing out on business and clients.
Responsive design is an approach to web design that optimises websites for viewing across a wide range of resolutions and devices - from desktops to mobile phones. This is achieved through various methods - using a fluid, dynamic grid layout, flexible images and CSS media queries that automatically resizes and rearranges the layout depending on the screen resolution the website is being viewed on. This is different from the older method where a mobile version of a site was created separately to the main desktop site. Although a responsive site may look different on the screen of an iPhone compared to a laptop, it is actually the same site in both cases.
But why is a responsive site important? There are several reasons:
- Google ranking
Google has reworked their search algorithm to favour sites built using responsive design - as a result, many sites may drop out of sight from prime positions in Google search results.
- User behaviour
The majority of internet searches are now conducted through mobile devices than desktop, at least those conducted through Google. Making a site that looks great on a mobile has become more important than ever.
At Netfront, responsive design is not an optional extra part of our services, but part of our normal development process. All our site build projects are based on a responsive design layout, and tested to ensure viability on all mobile platforms. We work with clients to customise the look and feel of their site, whether it is a new site, or a re-design and update of a current site.
