Research and trial platforms
For NHMRC, MRFF and ARC-funded research teams
From grant application to final follow-up
Netfront designs, builds and hosts online research and trial platforms for NHMRC, MRFF and ARC-funded teams at Australian universities and research institutes. Participant data stays in Australia, every platform is built to WCAG 2.2 AA, and we supply the security and accessibility documentation your ethics committee and funder will ask for.

Everything your study needs
Straight answers to the questions research teams ask us most.
Who are Netfront research platforms for?
Research teams running behavioural, educational, digital health and policy studies, including online randomised controlled trials, pilot and longitudinal studies, and programs that move from trial to public release. Most of our partners are university groups and research institutes funded by the NHMRC, MRFF or ARC Linkage scheme.
What does Netfront build and run?
Participant-facing web programs and apps, with the research tooling behind them: recruitment and eligibility screening, online consent, randomisation and allocation, reminders and follow-up surveys, engagement tracking and data export for analysis. We plan the platform with your team, build it, host it and support it for the life of the study.
Where is participant data stored?
In Australia. Platforms are hosted in Australian AWS regions so participant data stays within national borders, under an information security management system certified to ISO/IEC 27001:2022 and handled in line with the Australian Privacy Principles.
How do you support ethics applications?
We provide documentation on data handling, hosting, security and accessibility for your ethics application, and design the platform around the approved protocol. Ethics requirements are part of the build from the start rather than added at the end.
Can you help before the grant is awarded?
Yes. Involve us at the pre-award stage and we will provide a technical roadmap, budget estimates and compliance documentation to strengthen your NHMRC, MRFF or ARC application, at no upfront cost.
How do you reduce participant dropout?
Poor participant experience drives dropout before data collection even begins, and every dropout costs statistical power. We design onboarding and program flows the way modern learning apps do, drawing on our education technology work, and test them with the people who will use them.

Research platforms we have built
Three programs, each built with a different research group: Inroads with the Matilda Centre, CarerWell with the University of Newcastle and TRIO with PoCoG.
Inroads
How Netfront built Inroads with the University of Sydney: an online program for young adults with anxiety who drink to cope, tested in a trial.

CarerWell
CarerWell is an online program for people caring for someone with brain cancer, with practical information and support built by Netfront.

TRIO
The TRIO program was created to better understand, support and empower family carers of people diagnosed with cancer, through an online platform.

Frequently asked questions
Is Netfront ISO 27001 certified?
Yes. Netfront Pty Ltd is certified to ISO/IEC 27001:2022 for information security and ISO 9001:2015 for quality management.
Do you work on non-clinical research?
Yes. Most of our work supports non-clinical research: behavioural interventions, school and community prevention programs, digital health programs, and education and policy research.
What accessibility standard do you build to?
We build to WCAG 2.2 AA and design for young people, low literacy and culturally and linguistically diverse audiences. Our platforms can include read aloud, page translation and text size controls through Kanzi.
Can the platform stay online after the trial ends?
Yes. Programs such as Positive Choices and OurFutures began as research and continue as public programs. We plan for life after the trial from the start, so an effective intervention can stay online.
When should we contact Netfront?
As early as possible, ideally while you are writing the grant. Early involvement means the platform, budget and timeline in your application are realistic, and we can supply the technical and compliance details reviewers look for.
